What books should I read and study if I want to know more about astrophysics, creationism and evolution...?

Seems like a no brainer but where does one start (with no knowledge of "science" beyond what you learn in k-12. What do I refresh myself with, particular books, etc. I mean, scientists are developing t-shirts with microchips that allow you to change your shirts color (or trying to) what did they learn / apply to get to that point of being able to apply the science and technology into real world scenarios?
